I really need to get going on these, however I’ve currently been occupying myself with watercolours/drawing. Usually when I want to draw I just pick a photo of a band, as they usually have plenty of creative looking photos to draw from. One of these includes my latest obsession, Mew

I found this photo on last.fm, it’s amazing!! To draw it though I had to up the contrast in Photoshop first to be able to pinpoint darker areas for shading. I will post the finished painting on here when it’s complete (which it very nearly is).

Erm…. I’ve ran out of things to say, minds gone blank, will be back later!.
Oh, I would like to use this blog to start posting other people’s work too. Actually, I’ll do it right now.
My hero right now is Shawn Barber, an actual genius. I think his work speaks for itself.

Check out his blog and website

http://sdbarber.blogspot.com/

He inspired me to buy some oil paints and try a bit of painting myself. I’m still a bit nervous to start with them though and I need an image to paint. I can’t just do another band picture!
My sister is looking at his work for her Fine Art A Level. She’s done a few artist studies and is now working with her own photos. They are amazing!!! I need to persuade her to get a Flickr account so she can show off her talents.

Ciao for now. Will be back later to post the Mew illustration.

Online store is open!

Finally got my act together and set up my online store! I chose the night with Televised Crimewave as I was a fan of Black Wire sometime ago and never got to see them live. And of course their tracks are awesome! I took some photos of their set with my Olympus XA2 and OM10

Then it was time for Mystery Jets! A few months ago Same Teens asked me to make an illustration of the band for the event. During their set the image was projected behind them on stage! I was chuffed to bits to see it, it was also quite surreal. A great opportunity which I am forever thankful for them to give to me!

I have since discovered that the guy that approached me and told me I had ‘one of the best cameras and lenses ever’ made was actually the fantastical photographer Gavin Watson!

Hope to blog again soon! :)

Art Foundation Final Show

OK! So I guess I should update my blog sometime! I haven’t done much artwork really lately, that lazy week has kind of extended, but I have been working to save for an accomodation deposit and that tires me out big time!

I finally got 4 rolls of (expired) film developed, so I got some photographs of my work in the Art Foundation final show (which was actually June 11th!)

Wish I got some proper photographs of it!
The final piece was an interactive installation. All the 3d text and stuff made up the image of a self-promotional poster. People were invited to walk through to become part of the poster, which was shown on screen via a live camera. On screen it was supposed to appear as if it was open on Adobe Photoshop. Alongside the installation I had exhibited mixed media/digital illustrations and bags for sale. 4 were sold (yes the rest will be on my online store asap!)

Well I have now officially finished my Art Foundation course! I found out my result on Monday - I got a Level 4 Distinction which I am really chuffed with :) I still need to get my film developed from the final show. Speaking of film I just bought an overpriced Olympus XA2 on ebay, it better be good! One went for half the price a few hours later :(. I wanted a good quality compact I could take around with me every day. I still haven’t given in to digital!
I really want to be lazy for a week or so before I start any artwork but I still have other things to sort out. And I really need to get better with replying to people online. Hopefully I can get myself on track soon with my list of plans

I have been really inspired lately by the video for Animal Collective’s ‘My Girls’ http://www.vimeo.com/2616231, which is making me want to try out some VFX. Jon Vermilyea is responsible for the amazing animation.
Anyway I’m off to sample the delights of the Kitsuné Maison Compilation 7…

Art Foundation

The end of the course is looming! The final show is on Thursday and I’m very excited about it all, now that everything is coming together. Well nearly. I still need to get a move on with the 2000-3000 word essay… eek! I need to get my current roll of out-of-date afga processed too so I can use the pictures in it. My prints arrived this morning from photobox ready for framing, which I did today including framing a few drawn illustrations. They’ll go alongside my 3D installation of card, paper and other materials. As soon as I start building it (Monday) I’ll document the whole thing for flickr. Will be using film however so it won’t be up for a few days after.

It seems inevitable that I’m going to have to go back to work soon after a 2 week break… not looking forward to it but I’m running out of funds for nights out etc. Pfft. Wish I could get a different job, but who will give me a job I will leave in 3 months? I suppose it doesn’t hurt to apply though. I also need to get student finance sorted! I hate leaving things till the last minute!

I’ll be selling some screenprinted bags at the final show on Thursday, any left over will go in my bigcartel store. Also planning to sell a range of limited prints of my work soon!

TAXED: Collage(n) Party

Last night I went to the A Foundation gallery (www.afoundation.org.uk) in Liverpool to take part in TAXED: Collage(n) Party. Had a lovely time there, and was focused on making collages for 4 solid hours! When me and my friend got there we were asked where our studio was haha, then we had to explain we were still in college. I brought a few things with me already, like photocopies of my hands (I am obsessed with doing that), galaxies and coloured card, but they had stacks and stacks of old magazines and news papers, with antique wallpaper (foolishly didn’t use any of this) and floor tiles with bits of carpets! I used quite a few photos from Vice and Kruger mags, my best find was an old Boots photo prints wallet, I was hoping to find old photos in it at first but the rainbow gradient goodness made up for that! As time passed on more and more arty looking types arrived and started making all sorts of images.

Later on were were told it was to be judged by London based artist Jesse Ash, something we were unaware of completely! He had taken a break from marking Goldsmiths students’ work to come up and join us on the evening.

When the timer ended for the judging, we were asked to display our work around the room, so I stuck mine around a doorway with some masking tape (yes I can actually say my work’s been up in a gallery now haha). There were four places, copper, bronze, silver and gold. Unexpectedly one of my collages (picture above) gained gold! He said something about the double border that I’d used, and there was something about it he couldn’t put his finger on. My prize was the leftover materials - I already have enough junk for collage hoarded in my room! Afterwards I had a chat with him about uni and stuff and he was a very nice guy.

More of my collages made on the night here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/louiselynn/sets/72157618925427183/

I will be uploading pictures I took on the night when I’ve used up the current roll of film.

I love Devooo!Currently installing Adobe Premiere CS4 to...

I love Devooo!

Currently installing Adobe Premiere CS4 to edit/compile a video.
This project is sucking the life from me!
I think I’m going to post on here more frequently, I haven’t given this blog as much attention as I originally planned to.

Today I ventured to the computer room to use the scanner, found someone else ws using it so had a browse on one of my favourite sites http://www.itsnicethat.com . That’s were I stumbled upon Daniel Eatock’s site http://www.eatock.com and spent about half an hour browsing through. I’ve already seen his work with the Big Brother logo, although I wasn’t aware he produced a load of conceptual art and experiments. The stuff on there is really cool and inspiring. A lot of them quite simple but every interesting!

The picture above is a sketch for B.B. Manik (http://www.myspace.com/bbmanik). I think he’s using it for his album booklet or something.

9 days till my work is in the Guardian Guide :)

Beep! magazine

Hello visitor(s)!I now have 5 weeks including this one to complete my final project. Ahhh! I still have loads of planning to do! I am excited about the whole thing though. Oh and we have to write 3000 words - I REALLLLYY wish I went to the Rodchenko/Popova exhibition now, I am nuts for not going. I could have based a whole essay around it and it would fit in perfectly with my project (shapes/perspective etc). Nevermind.

The above picture is the next Beep! Magazine cover. I think this issue may be printed though I’m not sure. It’s a mixture of handmade card stuff, Illustrator and Photoshop. As a bonus I can use it as part of my project, so I’m thinking of getting it printed A2 size to be displayed.

I’m currently listening to my iTunes library in order of play counts. Now playing is NYC by Interpol in 61st place, although it’s 7th on my last.fm, hmmm.

Can’t think of anything else to mention right now. So I’ll end the post here!

EDIT: Oh yeah I’ve set up a bigcartel store. Nothing there yet though. I want to screenprint some tote bags though and I’ll be selling a few there if anyone’s interested in buying them!!

Final Show

Ok so the above picture has nothing to do with the title. I was browsing myspace and came across solo artist Danimal Kingdom - who also happens to be Kissy Sell Out’s cousin. He’s currently on tour with Esser and his tracks sound awesome! I loved his style in his default image, had an hour of procrastination to spare, and came up with the image. I sent it to him, don’t know if he will use it or not, I don’t really mind either way, it was fun to do!

Anyway the reason for my title is that my Art Foundation final show is in 6 weeks! Ahhh! I have big plans for it, already had to cut down on the amount of things I wanted to do, like a ‘The Seed’ style animation which would have taken over 6 weeks anyway. My little exhibit area will be an interactive installation, allowing the visitors to become part of the poster. I’ll film the whole thing and perhaps put it on the internet as a promotional viral? Ok I’ve only just come up with that so I’ll see how it goes… I need to start buying big sheets of card and foamboard so I can start building the set. I’m not going to use traditional sketchbooks either (well, actually I will but they won’t be my main research evidence), I’m going to record the making process and play it at a high speed (so it doesn’t get too boring). Might set up a blog for recording brainwaves and progress too for visitors to navigate. Anyway I still have plenty of ideas floating around so I’ll give some better details at a later date.

Right now that’s out the way I can ramble about other stuff. I got hold of 2 presale tickets for NIN in Manchester, I’m so excited - just had to get that off my chest!

What else… lately I have been researching art a lot more, mainly YBA’s. Looking up these things is very addictive thanks to Wikipedia, it’s just link after link… also reading up on Stuckism. Not sure whether I’ve chose a side for one or the other, I just find it interesting really.

And lastly I finally accepted my place for BA (Hons) Graphic Design at Camberwell. I am really excited about moving to London now!

So there is my tumblr post for today. Hopefully I will write again soon! About something interesting! Too many exclmation marks!

Nine Inch Nails

Today I went to boring old work again (funds my ebay purchases/camera film/bus pass etc). The weather was gorgeous outside but I am pretty certain my face will be quite sunburnt which is a bad thing. I never go brown, just pink then white again.

Yesterday I found out Nine Inch Nails are playing the Manchester MEN arena in July. I am so excited about this!!!! Not so much about the venue, but this might be my first and last chance for a while to see them live, so I have to go. My sister and I have become quite obsessed with them as of late. I’ve been following all the work they put into the amazing stage show of the LITS tour. It actually got me really interested in computing again and the advantages it provides for the graphics and lighting elements. Also I am extremely jealous of Rob Sheridan haha. Unrelated slightly but the Reactable is probably the coolest thing I’ve seen for a long time and it just makes me want to devote my life to computer science. Anyway, I think I’ll put on the Woodstock ‘94 DVD in a bit.

I still haven’t got around to doing much at all in the Easter holidays. I still need to confirm my place at Camberwell, not 100% sure I’m choosing it over Goldsmiths yet, or Leeds. I’ve got student finance to finish off and the dilemma of choosing London student accomodation. Whatever happens I NEED an internet connection. I am so used to the 20mb connection at home haha.

In the future this blog will be (hopefully) picture based with the majority of pictures being my work. When I get around to actually doing some.
